Blue Dragon Opal Necklace

The Glaucus atlanticus is about the size of a grape. It drifts upside down on the surface of the open ocean, belly to the sky, hunting the Portuguese man o' war — and once it has eaten one, it keeps the stinging cells for itself. Most people walk straight past one on the sand with no idea what they are looking at.

This is that creature, in polished stainless steel, set with blue and green opal that moves in the light the way deep water moves. The opal does not sit still. It catches the sun and throws it back, which is what made one buyer write, in capitals: AND THEN THE SUN HITS IT OMGGGGG. That reaction is not unusual. It is the standard.

The pendant is 32mm wide and 29mm tall — large enough to be noticed from across a room, refined enough to wear to anything. The chain sits at 17 inches, right at the collarbone, where the light finds it. Buyers keep saying the same thing: it is better in person than in the photographs.

Designed in Australia by nudibranch enthusiasts. We grew up watching blue dragons scatter across the sand after an onshore wind, and fell for the colours and that strange feathered shape long before we ever thought about making anything. This is our attempt to hand that feeling to somebody else.
